A current referral is required to see a pain specialist. This will ensure that you receive the best solution. Generally, a GP referral is valid for 12 months and a referral from a specialist is valid for 3 months.

A number of factors need to be considered regarding driving following any kind of surgery. It is important to consider not only your safety, but also the safety of other road users and pedestrians.

If you have undergone a general anaesthetic or been administered strong pain medications, these may impair your concentration or judgement and increase your reaction time to emergency situations. You must not drive for 24 hours after a general anaesthetic or sedation. A friend or family member will need to collect you from hospital following surgery.

Pain may also be a factor that affects your ability to drive and your ability to safely manipulate a moving vehicle or machinery.
